Context:
Popova is in deep mourning for her late husband. She declares to spend her whole life in his memories. She calls him on unfaithful man who mostly deceived her. She talks to Smirnov and wants to prove that no man can make her forget her insincere husband. She keeps aside Luka's words meet a strange end she admires her love for him and embraces the Simrnov's offer of marriage. Luka also suggested her to forget her past and marry again, but she rebukes him rashly. Now she does the same she contrasted most.

Answer)
Bear is a farcical play. It reveals the true mankind. Man has been shown as bear and society is bearing him. Bear provokes laughter by creating artificial unrealistic and idealistic situations. It consists of comic situations. Everything seems to be shifting unexpectedly in it, "The Bear" show us sudden change of mood in the character of Smirnov, who comes to take his money back. He forgets money and begins his nature of being a bear. Popova decides to spend her life in house confinements, but she makes use of opportunity and accepts Smirnov as new life partner. Where has she thrown the old promise of love? "The Bear" surprises us, makes us laugh and shows us many changes. Luka suggests Popova to exploit her charms and trap some army man.
In the being we see Popova very much serious and the clouds after the death of her husband. She makes us feel pity upon her plight, but her marrying Simrnov bring us out of the dark feelings. This is the true end of comedy that laughter follows it.

Answer)
When the play beings. Popova is found in deep mourning. She is feeling deep pains after the death of her husband. The death of her husband has left her in isolation. There is nobody around her expect Luka who would console her.
Luka tries to encourage her to forget the pains and worries. He tries to encourage her to face life bravely and stop weeping. He invites her attention to the young and smart army officers who are quartered at Riblove. He suggests her to meet them before losing her beauty and charm. Popova does not follow his words. She is not ready to stop mourning. Despite knowing that her husband was unfair, cruel and disloyal, she loves him a lot.

Popova's husband Nicolai died seven months ago. She is in deep mourning for him. She has decided to spend life in utter isolation. In the beginning lines of the play, the readers start weeping as they read out the pains of a woman, but all of a sudden her mood starts changing and she beings to speak ill of her husband. "You deceived me, had rows with me".
In the being we see Popova very much serious and under the clouds after the death of her husband. She makes us feel pity upon her plight, but her marrying Smirnov bring us out of the dark feelings.

"The Bear" reveals the human psychology and hypocrisy. Man spends his life in pretence. Popova, the major character in the play has been shown mourning. She mourns at the death of her husband. She expresses his love and dedications to her deceased husband. But, innertly she calls him a cheat, untrue and disloyal husband. Although her husband Nicolai died seven months ago, yet she seems to be worried a lot. Her servant tries to console her using many ways, but she decides to spend her whole life in mourning.
She shows her husband's involved in many negative things like spending nights with other women. Yet she decided to love him and spoil all of her life in isolation. She has not forgotten to use cosmetics and she has not felt any hesitation in embracing Smironov. She has conflict between actions and words. She is innerly a shebear and we cannot help bearing him.

Luka is simple man. He is straight forward in his dealings. He speaks whatever comes into his mind and does not like to pretend. He is the representative of the poor class. He is a faithful man. He is always found ready to help Popova. So, he uses his little brain and simple tongue to enable her to get married. He also warns her that she is in the danger of losing all the physical charm in future. So, she must marry in order to secure her future.

Uncle James principles and discipline come to an end as twenty three years old Philip comes back from the battle field. He is no more a dependent boy. He took many ricks in the battlefield. When he left home, he was a child. When he comes back, he is a man. Despite his uncle forces him to follow the discipline, he has planned. Philip teaches the unforgettable lesson to the cook, when she is not ready to give him the breakfast. His uncle also decides to give up high claims of discipline, because he has also perceived the man in the boy.

Q1) Comparison between Philip and Uncle James.
Generation gap is the subject discussed by many writers in their works. Even the poets and dramatists have presented in a very beautiful way. Sometimes children and their parents face peacefulness because an unidentified gap that works like a wild fire against their family. They need to abolish this gap in order to spend happy life.
Uncle James wants to maintain the old values and conventions. He considers Philip an immature boy. His forces him to follow the rules and regulations that he has set. Philip has served in army for four years. He has seen many ups and downs in his life. He has passed through many risks in the battlefield and has come back alive. He gets up at 10'o clock and comes to dine. But Mrs. Higgins, the cook is not ready to give him the breakfast. Uncle James wants to subdue him. He is not really to give him his money back. The dream solves the whole problem and bridges the gap between Philips and his uncle. Philip is ready to follow him. James misconceptions against Philip are removed. The writer proves that the youngsters have innovative souls, they should be trusted on. The parents must let their children demonstrate their wisdom. The children should make use of the elders.

Uncle James is the representative of the old generation. Philips stands for the young generation.
Uncle James is strict to the young generation. He is a strict kind of a man. He is always devoted to maintain the old conventions and values. He has prepared a very hard discipline at home and forces all the members to follow it. "I expect not only punctuality but civility and respect." Philip has spent four years in army, he has passed though many risks and saved his life. He has no contrast between his words and actions. Uncle James is a greedy man. When aunt Emily suggests uncle James to be polite with Philips, he calls it silly sentiments. He does not give any value to anybody. Philip is a brave man. He has always defeated those who have tried to bow him down. He taught an unforgettable lesson to cook Higgin. He has proved his worth in the battle-field but Uncle James has under-estimated him. He follows the pre-conceived ideas and has a horrible dream.
But, it is very ironical that he sees Philip standing before him like obedient gentleman. He must have used his intelligence instead of blackmailing the boy.

Context:
Wolf the famous burglar of England enters lord Redchester's house. Instead of calling the police or catching him, they welcome him. They see him using different tricks to open the safe. They invite all the members of their family to come and see the burglar busy at his work. Lord Redchester tells him the password. When he takes all of their precious gifts, they request him to give them back. In the beginning, they admire him, but they beggars when they see their being taken away from them. At last Uncle Charles sets him to rob the Wallaby. In this way, Wolf the robber himself is robbed.

They play "Something to talk about" is a comedy. It makes us laugh and get rid of the absurdities found in our society. Wolf enters rich house and inhabitants welcome him. They cannot help admiring him. They see him using his brain to open the safe. The readers are surprised to see Guy Sydney feeling pleasure at the arrival of wolf at their home. If the young man doesn't get angry and welcomes a burglar and a looter, who will advance his steps to abolish the blacksheeps. Even Guy calls his sister Lattice to come and see Wolf at his work. A young boy in our society is not supposed to do so. He keeps his sister far away from the shadow of such a black sheep even. When the safe opens and they see their precious gifts, they promise to help wolf in robbing their neighbour, who is coming to dine with them. They are faithless and disloyal people. Their servant Preston is better than they are. He could kill the burglar , if they had allowed.
